The house is situated within a short walk of Brook and Compton beaches. At low tide there are guided fossil and dinosaur walks to be had - with details all at the house. Fossilised poo is a common find and the dinosaur footprints are truly astonishing.
For walkers the Coastal path runs right behind the house and continues on to the Needles. From the village there is a network of footpaths and bridle ways running up through the woods and downs above Brook and Mottistone.
For the more sporty Compton is one of the Island's surfing spots, while Brook beach is popular with kite and wind surfers. For info visit iowsurf.com.
The Downs are a good launching pad for para gliders and lessons can be arranged through High Adventure in nearby Freshwater.
The lovely village of Yarmouth is fifteen minutes drive away and the best place to get the ferry and go crabbing. While Freshwater is even closer and has all the local shops you should need. The Isle of Wight is getting better and better, for foodies, all the time and the welcome pack has a list of good local butchers, fishmongers and veg shops.
